For the big Friday: The Greenwood Hotel
The undisputed king of North Sydney after-work drinks. Set in a heritage sandstone schoolhouse on Blue Street, the Greenwood has a sprawling beer garden, multiple bars and a Friday-night crowd that spills across the courtyard. It's loud, it's fun, and it's where you'll end up if a "quick one" turns into a session. Get there early to claim garden space.
For a proper pub: The Rag & Famish
One of Sydney's oldest pubs, the Rag & Famish on Church Street is the antidote to a corporate day — honest beers, a warm welcome and an upstairs dining room if you want to make it dinner. Less of a scene than the Greenwood, more of a local. A favourite for a relaxed Thursday.
For groups & the game: The Bavarian
In Greenwood Plaza, The Bavarian does steins, pretzels and big-screen sport — easy for a large after-work group that can't agree on anything fancier. Bookings help on Friday nights and game days.
For a quieter glass
Not every night calls for a beer garden. The wine bars and restaurant bars around Mount Street and Miller Street are the move when you want a glass of something good and an actual conversation — an aperitivo at an Italian bistro, or a quiet sake before the train home. Getting home
This is a commuter's drinking district, and the transport is the best reason to leave the car at home: North Sydney and Milsons Point stations are central, buses run along the Pacific Highway and Miller Street, and the city is one stop away over the Bridge. Drink, then walk to the train — easy.
